A bit about LESSR and why we are now LESSSanctuary.
Lincoln ESS Rescue was born in January 2002 and stopped being
LESSR in January 2008. I became
frustrated and stressed at the situation with my rescue dogs,
mainly being let down by people and also people I trusted who
returned my dogs after years of being in their home. I became
less able to trust people and it
was getting increasingly more difficult to get a rescue dog from
me. I started keeping dogs
that could be re homed, because I didn't think I could find a
good enough home for them. Dogs like Gerald who I helped re home with out him actually coming into kennels. A sensible
lady albeit with a newborn, she convinced me she could look
after the then named Jerry. She did the right thing and came to
me for private dog
training lessons. While she sat there breast feeding, I was
doing the training! It wasn't a surprise when she said she'd
made the wrong decision and would I help her
re home him. By then
I was involved, what was I supposed to do? He was a very strong
willed dog, who would have been ruined in any other home, or at
least that's how I thought. I now know that had Gerald gone to a
pet home, he would have been one of those dogs in the Springer
category 1 - 'he is too much for us'.
Then there was Jess; been in a home for 2 1/2 years and caged for 9 hours a day. Owner thought that was OK and I was the 'baddy' when I suggested that was wrong! She came back for a, then, temporary stay...12 months down the line, heard nothing from him. Jess will stay with me now as she is challenging to say the least. I cant publish what I think of you and you know who you are.
So here we are, 2009 and I have 24 dogs, all but one rescued. 19 of them are the product of my 6 years doing Springer Rescue. Here's their story... more >>>
